What personal data we collect and why we collect it

You can visit most pages of this website without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information. When you visit the website we automatically log your IP address for analytics (the unique address which identifies your computer on the internet). This information is collected to measure various web traffic statistics and to help administer the website but is not released to any other party or linked to your personally identifiable information.

If you make a holiday reservation through this site we will collect some personal data, such as name, email address, and transactional data. We need this data to accept and honour your holiday booking and to contact you in relation to that booking. We do not store any credit card data as payments are processed through third parties namely PayPal and Stripe. If you have concerns about this please refer to their privacy policies.

We do not collect any sensitive personal data, such as data concerning health. We will ask for the number of adults and children in your party but we only store the personal details of the person making the booking.

We retain the data for no longer than we need for business processing and historical tax and accounts requirements.

Comments

If visitors leave comments on blog posts on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.  An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you send us a message using our contact form we may keep your message and email address for as long as necessary for customer service purposes, but we do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes. If you subsequently make a booking we may keep your original message as part of our customer data.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your hard drive by our web page server. Cookies are very commonly used by websites, do not collect personally identifiable information and do not harm your system. By configuring your preferences or options in your browser, you can decide if and how a cookie will be accepted.

If you leave a comment on a blog post you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not share your personal data with any third parties. If you make a booking through this site we may share some personal data (eg your surname and the number of people in your party) with our property manager. This is done to process your holiday booking and prepare the house for your arrival and departure. If we need to engage the services of any third parties to visit the house during your stay eg a plumber or electrician we may share some personal data such as name and phone number with them. This will only happen in prior consultation with you.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.   In addition we keep contact form entries for one year, analytics records for two years, and customer purchase records for ten years.

What rights you have over your data

If you have made a booking through this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
